Almancil - Nossa Senhora da Fatima
Our congregation has been gathering to worship at the Church of Senhora da Fatima for many years, by kind permission of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Faro.
A Holy Communion service is held every Sunday at 9.30am which is a sung service in accordance with the C of E liturgy of Common Worship with modern and traditional hymns. On two Sundays in the year, Remembrance Sunday and Christmas Day, we join with our sister church at St Luke's.
Our congregation continues to grow and consists of long term residents but with numbers boosted by visitors to this popular part of the Algarve.
A Holy Communion service is held on 2nd and 4th Thursday each month at 11am at the Chapel of the St Vincent's Chaplaincy House at Boliqueime - this being the home of our resident Chaplain, Fr Bob Bates, and his wife Diane.
After Sunday service the congregation moves to a local cafe for coffee and fellowship and this has become an important time to welcome visitors and talk about matters which concern us all. In common with our two sister churches we have fundraising events throughout the year and 10% of net proceeds raised is given to charities approved by the Church Council at the end of each year.
Father Bob is available to conduct Baptisms, Wedding Blessings and Funeral or Memorial services. Baptisms are normally held within our Sunday service and Confirmations can be arranged to coincide with a visit from one of our Bishops. Wddding Anniversaries or Renewal of Vows can also be celebrated. We also have Lent and Advent courses and Bible study.
Almancil Church and our weekly service has a special appeal to our regular members who often travel many kilometers to be with us for 9.30am. The early start seems to please most folk who like to start their Sunday by attending morning worship before moving on to other things. We have a reputation for our singing so why not join us one Sunday?
