Wedding Blessings and Renewal of Vows

Our Chaplaincy uses four very different churches across the Algarve for its regular worship and thus offers prospective couples an attractive choice to hold their Wedding Blessing or Renewal of Vows service. Each church has its own section on the website, but an outline of the  features is given below.

Nossa Senhora de Fatima, near Almancil is a modern church with ready access to the Golden Triangle including Vale do Lobo, Quinta do Lago, and Almancil itself.

Nossa Senhora Da Luz ("The church on the beach"),at Praia Da Luz offers a stunning setting and here (for an extra fee) we can provide a Choir to enhance the service.

Nossa Senhora do Carmo, near Tavira is a pretty church is set within the grounds of the Hotel Vila Gale Albacora on the Ria Formosa, with its reception facilities. We would be pleased to introduce you to the Hotel caterers.

St. Luke's Church, Gorjoes, (near Sta Barbara de Nexe) is the only consecrated Anglican Church in the Algarve and is a beautiful church in superb countryside surroundings. Le Marquis Restaurant is adjacent to the church and is available for cocktails and canapes, or for a reception. We would be happy to make the introductions.Click here for a link:

Our Chaplains are also to provide Wedding Blessings in secular venues such as hotels, etc and subject to permission of the local priest and the Bishop of Faro we are able to use other churches across the Algarve.

We can introduce you to reliable, experienced local Wedding Planners and Florists and our Ministry team or on hand to offer support on your special day.

To obtain further information or to make formal enquiries, our immediate contact for you is Mary Young click here to email. Mary will send you our application form and donations schedule. She will, then, on receipt of the completed application form, assess which one of our Chaplains is available to take your service, and arrange for you to be contacted with other documents, such as our form of marriage (we use the Church of England's Marriage Service liturgy), and advice on hymns, readings and indeed other matters which we hope will be useful.

We do advise couples to hold a civil ceremony, ideally in their country of origin, before their Wedding Blessing ceremony, because the legal red tape in Portugal can take a long time to organise. Gibraltar is another location where civil marriages can be held. Our Chaplains will want to see your marriage license before taking the Blessing Service.

Once we have the above information, and have confirmed that all is in place, we ask for a deposit. The balance of your donation should be paid before or at the rehearsal. Our priests would welcome an opportunity to meet with couples well in advance of the service so that a good relationship can be established and we can offer a service especially for YOU.
