Weddings at St Vincent’s Chaplaincy
Our Chaplaincy boasts three lovely churches and our prospective couples have a good choice as to where to hold their wedding blessing service. Just check on our website for full details of each of our churches plus photos.
We have been arranging weddings here for many years and it is becoming increasingly popular for couples to have their weddings blessed here in the sunny Algarve.

The procedure . Mary Young is our Wedding Blessing Services Coordinator and she writes: "The procedure is very easy. Firstly you contact me, as the Wedding Blessing Services Administrator for the Chaplaincy. I can be contacted very easily by email on marykeithyoung@gmail.com I will then send out our Application form and our Fees Schedule and any other documents you might like such as our form of marriage service and lists of appropriate hymns and readings.
We do advise the couples to hold a civil ceremony in their country of origin before their wedding blessing service. This is because the legal ‘red tape’ in Portugal can take a very long time to organise and we do advise against it unless you are a Portuguese national. Gibraltar can also be another location for a civil marriage.
The wedding blessing service is exactly the same as a normal wedding service. We have organists at all three of our churches and a wonderful choir at our church in Luz.
Once I have received the application form I will confirm the date with our Chaplains and make sure the church is available for the requested date and then, once confirmed, I ask the couples to send a deposit – the balance of the fees would then be paid at the rehearsal. This usually takes place a day or so before the wedding service.
We can advise on florists and photographers but it is usual for the couple to find their chosen place to hold their reception.
I shall look forward to hearing from you!
Mary Young"
